Full Speed Ahead!

Whh

As our move into the new William H. Hannon Library continues, here's a summary of accomplishments, what's currently taking place, and what's coming up:

Accomplishments to celebrate...

  • The books have been cleaned, measured, and tagged. The shelves at the William H. Hannon Library have been numbered and tagged. On Wednesday (6/24/09), Hallett Movers began moving books from the Von der Ahe Library to the William H. Hannon Library. This is one day earlier than scheduled.

Things that are happening...

  • In the Von der Ahe Library, only Reference, Circulation, and the lobby are open to the public. The stacks are closed to allow Hallett Movers to move books and carts. Our library materials are no longer available. Patrons may request items from LINK+ or through Document Delivery.
  • In the William H. Hannon Library:
    • Utility shelving continues to be installed in the basement;
    • IT (Information Technology) is preparing to install computer equipment in the Information Commons and other public areas.
  • Library staff continue to visit the William H. Hannon Library to check on work in progress (e.g. equipment installation, shelving of books) or to inform policy/procedure decisions.

Coming Up...

  • Hallett Movers is scheduled to begin moving staff offices and workstations on Friday, July 3, and then continuing Monday, July 6, until completed.

Green taped books are all "right"

Blog 009

You've already seen that some of the books on the Von der Ahe's shelves have green tape on them. The next step in this part of the move preparation is separating the books with green tape from the books without green tape. This is necessary for the movers to correctly measure and move the books to their proper new locations in the William H. Hannon Library. Now you'll see the green taped books within one shelf moved all together to the right side of the shelf. So if you're looking for a book and it's not where you expect to find it, remember to check on the right side of the shelf among all the green taped books. It may have been moved out of sequence to accommodate this step of the move preparation. If that book you really need remains elusive, please ask for help!

As we prepare for the move to the new library ...

We're down to the wire. Ten weeks and counting for the move to the new William H. Hannon Library! As we make our final preparations for the move, changes in the Von der Ahe will be taking place. You'll see books/shelves/furniture being moved around the library and green tape still adorns many of the books. Although certain areas of the library will be inaccessible, we'll continue services until the very last moment possible. See the summer hours calendar HERE so you'll know where we are in the moving stages.

During the time that the library books are inaccessible, LINK+ and interlibrary loan will be available. We have eliminated restrictions on student book borrowing from other libraries; this is now a free service to our students. LINK+ books from LMU and other institutions may be delivered to students at any member library through the Pick-Up Anywhere service; see our LINK+ information page: www.lmu.edu/linkFAQs.

The library's electronic databases, electronic journals and e-books will be accessible via our website all summer; the move will have no impact on access to these resources.
