There's good news and there's bad news. I was able to export the cba.lmu.edu site. My plan was to then import the site, renaming it MBA.LMU.EDU and eliminating all pages outside of the MBA microsite. However. I encountered a server error upon upload. If there is no way to resolve this error, I will have to enable friendly urls for the entire CBA.LMU.EDU. While CBA is a relatively manageable site, I see this being problematic for larger areas, since it would be better to roll this out in sections.

Not quite there ...

From Tony: I've set myself up and am ready to test. The first thing that comes to my attention is the list of "various errors" from MB's emails -- I say we post about these directly if we encounter them or they're fixed. Otherwise, I'm interested in how we begin to form a naming convention for the top tier areas of all the sites.

The Guinea Pig
From Amy: Testing on the MBA area of the test environment commences this week. Since MBA is setup as part of CBA, rather than its own site, my first step is to extract MBA and set it up as a self-contained site. The CMS has an "Export site" feature, but this will be WNMD's first time using it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for a smooth transfer of the site so I can get to the real testing -- the friendly urls.
Also... this blog needs images.

Configured and On My Way
From John: I was able to follow Matt's directions and edit my local host file to see the test domains. We'll have to talk about adding additional ones when we want to test domains that were not included, such as KXLU.com. Also, I have admin access to the server in case anyone needs something looked up in IIS. For all who are interested in our time line, contact your Web Manager as they are handling the testing and implementation of friendly URLs for their respective areas of responsibility.
Hello world
IT has created a test environment for this project that duplicates the LMU.edu family of Web sites. The Office of Web, New Media and Design has now begun to test friendly URLs in this space. Check back often for our progress.
